Stopping the servers


Never attempt to stop the LDAP servers using the kill command, since this might cause damage to your server data. Rather, use the following commands to stop the servers according to the necessary procedures.


The directory services can be stopped using the init scripts, this time with an argument of stop. After quitting any LDAP tools you were using, this is the general way on every UNIX-based system to stop services, including the LDAP directory service.

Using iPlanet/SunONE:

Stopping the LDAP service using the tools available on Solaris, these are the things to do:

  • To stop the LDAP server:

    /usr/sbin/directoryserver stop

  • To stop the administrative console:

    Use Console->Exit.

  • To stop the administrative server:

    /usr/sbin/directoryserver stop-admin
